Marvin Harrison (88) catches a pass for a first down before being pushed out of bounds by Houston Texans cornerback Demarcus Faggins

The Houston Chronicle reported that the current starting #2 CB Demarcus “Petey” Faggins could be benched this Sunday when the Miami Dolphins comes to Houston. Faggins, a traditional nickel back, could finally be put in place within the struggling Texans secondary if CBs Jamar Fletcher can covet the # 2 role while rookie Fred Bennett contributes his efforts.

Fletcher replaced Faggins midway through the Falcons game. Bennett, who played for the South Carolina Gamecocks, like CB Dunta Robinson, has been out since injuring his hamstring at Carolina in Week 2. Head Coach Gary Kubiak is looking forward to their progress this week in practice.

The Panthers and Colts receiver threats torched Faggins in Weeks 2 and 3. In Week 4, Faggins was victim to Joey Harrington and Michael Jenkins. Faggins also was responsible for 38 of the 78 Texans penalty yards against the Falcons.

Petey said after the Colts game that he has a short term memory for giving up big plays. “I’ll think about it to learn from it, but I’ll never let it get to me. And it’s just you out there playing – you can’t let what people are saying affect you. (I) expect the worst (from the fans and press), and go play football.”

The #1, Dunta Robinson said after Sunday’s loss at Atlanta, “Petey is still the starter. Petey is one of those guys where you don’t have to say much to him. He handles his business. He knows what he needs to do. You’ve just got to keep encouraging guys in that situation.”
