Texans Injury Update 10/16/07

Injuries have hurt the Texans this year, and may affect their offseason moves after the 2007 season.

Megan Manful, of the Houston Chronicle, reported WR Jacoby Jones will have an expanded role in Week 7 against Tennessee. On Sunday, Jones mainly played special teams versus the Jaguars.

WR Andre Johnson will not be back and may require one to two more weeks to get back in game action. On Sunday, Johnson stood on the sidelines with a towel over his head watching as the Texans lost to the Jags. Look for WRs Kevin Walter to take the #1 spot, followed by Andre Davis at the #2 and Jacoby Jones and David Anderson at the # 3 spot. Kubiak has said before he enjoys having David Anderson play the slot.

With Center Seth McKinney out, Mike Flanagan has taken over the role but hasn’t provided the boost that long-time Texan McKinney provided before being placed on the IR. C Chris White may earn more playing time after playing well Sunday when backup QB Sage Rosenfels entered the game in the 4th Quarter. White, according to Kubiak, is not in the best weight form and he could improve as he’s showing promise.

MLB DeMeco Ryans had a rolled ankle but still played against Jacksonville. He was going to be replaced by OLB Danny Clark and MLB Zach Diles. Ryans played MLB and Clark stayed at OLB while Diles was inactive for the game. Other noticeable inactives for Week 6 were G Casey Studdard and RB Ron Dayne.

Finally, the Houston Chronicle reported that Ahman Green’s time with the Texans may come to an end if his health persists on the wrong note from now until after the season. Green signed a 1-year contract in March and has missed enough time off the game field for the Texans to start worrying about the injury prone back.
