Texans Injury News and Notes

The Texans were swarmed with troubles against the Chargers Sunday. San Diego won 35-10 with a stellar offensive, defensive and special teams’ effort over the banged up Texans. This loss dropped the Texans to last place in the AFC South with a 3-5 record.

QB
Matt Schaub left Sunday’s game with a concussion and may be out for this week’s game against Oakland. Before Sunday he was beat up with ankle and hip problems, but now he’s dealing with the after affects of a concussion.

The Texans signed QB Craig Nall off the waivers Monday after he was waived by Minnesota on October 19. Nall played ball at Northwestern State in Alexandria, Louisiana before backing up Brett Favre for four years under current Texans offensive coordinator, Mike Sherman, in Green Bay. The Texans picked up the QB 10 days after he cleared waivers after his second cut in Minnesota.

RB
Ahman Green has been off and on with a banged up knee and Kubiak is “concerned” for the 30 year old back. The Panthers pounded Green in Week 2, and he’s been suffering since as he has been inactive 3 out of the past 5 games. Green was listed as probable for the game, but was inactive after taking a few practice reps on Friday.

Joe Echemandu played well although he suffered a tweaked hamstring on his first carry against the Chargers. He looks like a worthy starter for the Texans who’ve had RB problems since day one, and General Manager Rick Smith said he was pleased with Echemandu’s running style. Echemandu had 10 carries for 62 yards & 2 receptions for 11 yards behind the starter Ron Dayne, who had 17 carries for 47 yards.

WR
Andre Johnson will take more reps in practice and may play Sunday, but the Houston Chronicle reports Johnson’s return would probably come against New Orleans in Houston, Week 11, after the Texans bye week.

Andre Davis should play Sunday, but he suffered a big hit and some bruised ribs Sunday.

Jacoby Jones had a career high 5 catches and he’s showing he’s recovering from his shoulder separation. He may see a larger role with Andre Davis slowed.

TE
Owen Daniels suffered a high ankle sprain and should see a limited role if he plays Week 9. The Texans have him listed as day-to-day.

LB
DeMeco Ryans’ (ankle) is running and looking better on the field, and the Texans haven’t released any news saying his ankle is getting worse.

DB
CB Petey Faggins was benched Sunday and came out with 1 tackle. His replacement, rookie Fred Bennett, had only one more tackle in the loss. Dunta Robinson wants his team to play angry every game like he does, but Robinson also said, “I’m embarrassed. I didn’t sign up to be a loser.”
