Texans Update: Coaches, Players

Dunta Robinson

No doubt RB Ahman Green wants to return strong, but after several injuries that have bruised the once bruising back, Green might be looking at a Running Back By Committee journey next season. Texans HC Gary Kubiak said to Houston “We’re counting on Ahman coming back and being 100 percent…He can be a huge factor for our team when he is.”

The Houston Chronicle reported that WR Andre Davis’ agent and General Manager Rick Smith met Wednesday. It is presumable that the Texans would like the 29 year old receiver to come back. Davis has never hit a big pay day like he could this off season as a free agent.

CB Dunta Robinson had surgery to attach a torn right hamstring and repair his torn right ACL. Renown orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, found no cartilage damage. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported he’s working out at Andrews’ rehab facility but may not be ready until November.

Another injury note, OT Charles Spencer, may be ready for minicamps according to the Houston Chronicle. He was one of two of the Texans 2006 3rd Round Picks. RB Chris Taylor is getting back into the works and can be found on

Defensive Coordinator Richard Smith and GM Rick Smith are looking to improve the coaching squad, and Seattle Seahawks DC Ray Rhodes could come into help out. Rhodes, a native of Mexia, 200 odd miles outside of Houston, could be hired as an assistant coach to the defensive backs to assist secondary coach Jon Hoke. Rhodes has been with the Seahawks since 2003 and has brought in talents like Marcus Trufant and Lofa Tatupu to the Seahawks standout D. Seahawks.Net holds that Rhodes’ D improves a team’s zone schemes and prevent defenses while allowing for opponent’s short gains. reported that Mike Singletary, a native Houstonian, is awaiting an opening by the Houston Texans. There’s speculation that if Kubiak (14-18 over two seasons) cannot improve the Texans, then the humble Singletary could be in the mix of the Texans next HC. Singletary is currently the DC for the San Francisco 49ers. He’s being called by his Alma Matter, Baylor University, to coach them to Big 12 prestige. But he’s also waiting on a head coaching position in the NFL. It seems doubtful that the Texans would dump Kubiak after all he’s done to improve the team throughout the problems that persist. Look to see Gary put his job on the line and do his best, along with GM Rick Smith, and get the Texans to the playoffs.
