Schaub and Green Rehab Update

Word has it that Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub and RB Ahman Green are progressing well in their rehab process for their respective injuries. Last season, Schaub injured his non-throwing shoulder when he took harsh hits by Tennessee’s DT Albert Haynesworth and former San Diego CB Drayton Florence. Green, who injured his knee in Week 1 against Kansas City, was plagued by his knee injury. He was eventually placed on the injured reserve.

Although the two offensive playmakers could not finish the 2007 season with the Texans, the two should be ready, and at least limited, for the Texans offseason workouts coming up at the end of this month. Below is your Texans’ rehab update for QB Matt Schaub and RB Ahman Green:

The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday that Matt Schaub’s non-throwing shoulder is healing well, but he isn’t quite ready to take a hit. He will most likely be limited least when the Texans begin their offseason workouts on March 31, but he’s throwing to receivers with almost full motion. On March 10, reported that Schaub’s January surgery is behind him. Schaub told the website, “The range of motion is fully back and now we are just working on strengthening, getting strong again… it feels great.”

OC Kyle Shanahan told that he’s eager to see Schaub’s return. “He proved to us he’s a legitimate quarterback. We were impressed with what he did last year in offseason workouts, OTAs and training camp. This season, he needs to be healthy for 16 games.”

On March 2, the Houston Chronicle reported Ahman Green will be full strength when the Texans begin their offseason workouts. Green, who sounded optimistic about getting back with the Texans players, said, “It’s going good. I’ve been working out for almost two months and then I’m going to take a little break before we start as a team come March 31st. It’ll be a needed break. I’ve been going hard at it. Take a little couple of weeks off and get back to it.” Green also said, “When minicamp comes around, I’ll be ready for that as well.”

On Green, the Texans have signed RB Chris Brown and re-signed RBs Darius Walker and Chris Taylor during the offseason. The Houston media also believe that the Texans are planning on drafting a RB with one of their five draft picks (1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th) in April. John McClain and 610 believe that the back will most likely come on day two of the draft as the Gary Kubiak, much like Denver’s HC Mike Shanahan, can find good backs to play in the zone blocking system in the later rounds of the draft. Green’s future playing time with the team is up to his progress, readiness to play and make plays with the team in 2008.
