Texans Re-Sign Brown, OT Frye

The Texans re-signed and finalized the contracts for exclusive rights free agent OT Brandon Fry and restricted free agent SS C.C. Brown on Monday. Both were given tender offers before the free agency opened on the eve of February 29, 2008.

Brown, who was given a second round tender offer at the end of February, most likely signed his $1.417 million, one-year contract. He had 84 tackles and eight passes deflected last season. In 44 starts out of his 47 games, Brown’s totaled 260 tackles and three picks since joining the Texans three seasons ago as a sixth round draft choice.

Fry, the second year pro and VT Hoakie, spent the first eight games of 2007 with the practice squad before moving to the active roster but never played with on Sundays. He’ll compete with Jordan Black, nicknamed I-65 while playing for the Chiefs for allowing defensive lineman to drive over him, for the backup LT spot behind Ephraim Salaam. LT Charles Spencer is also attempting to complete his comeback, but there is not accurate timetable to when he’ll return, if ever. Spencer was originally drafted and intended to be the feature starting LT for the Texans for years to come, but Salaam doesn’t do too bad for an NFL player who loves being on the Ellen Degeneres Show.
