Texans Rolled at Home by the Ravens 41-13

The Ravens pick off Rosenfels
For those that thought that going with Sage Rosenfels at QB while Matt Schaub was hurt was going to be a seamless transition probably were as stunned as anyone at Sunday’s effort at Reliant Stadium. Throwing four interceptions and playing a very sub-par game against a good Ravens defense, Rosenfels and the Texans were pounded at home 41-13 to fall to 3-6 on the season.

The Texans had started the year at 0-4, but seemed on the right track until the past two weeks when they ran into defenses that overpowered them in the Vikings and now on Sunday against a Ravens team that beat them up and made Rosenfels look awful in his second start of the season.

On the day, the QB was 23-for-38 for 294 yards with one TD pass and the four picks. The interceptions were a key in the Texans never being able to get any sort of offensive rhythm going, as the team fell behind 12-6 at the half, 19-13 after three, and then the bottom dropped out with the Ravens putting up 22 fourth quarter points to make it the blowout it was.

Baltimore got another effective day from rookie QB Joe Flacco, who was15-for-23 for 185 yards with two TD’s and a QB rating of 118.9. Former Ohio State QB Troy Smith came in and threw one pass, and it went for a score on a 14-yard pass to Todd Heap with 6:29 left to make it 34-13 Baltimore. Willis McGahee ran for 112 yards and two scores, finding holes in the Texans D all day.

Baltimore also had the ball quite a bit more than the Texans, holding on for 36:17 to just 23:43 for Houston. There was talk about the Gary Kubiak coaching era being on the line if the Texans could not get the ship turned around, and against the Ravens, that ship not only didn’t get turned around, it seems more and more like it’s on its way to the bottom of the ocean.

The 6-3 Ravens will be at the Giants next week in a great clash of two very good defenses and very physical teams. The Texans will try and turn things around as they head to Indy to take on the Colts.
