Police Officer Apologizes To Moats Over Incident

Dallas police officer Robert Powell has released a statement of apology to Texans running back Ryan Moats and his family for the incident of pulling him over for running a red light while Moats’ mother-in-law died in a Dallas hospital.

Per the Associated Press, Powell released this statement through his lawyer:

“I wish to publicly and sincerely apologize to the Moats family, my colleagues in the Dallas Police Department and to all those who have been rightfully angered by my actions. After stopping Mr. Moats’ vehicle, I showed poor judgment and insensitivity to Mr. Moats and his family by my words and actions.”

Powell has been reprimanded publicly and privately by his superiors, who have expressed embarrassment and disappointment at the officer’s actions. Powell is on administrative leave pending an internal review.
