Texans Antonio Smith Blogs on Getting Ready for Camp

Right now, I am putting the finishing touches on getting in shape for training camp. Because camp starts this weekend, I am trying to spend as much time as I can with my family right now, because once training camp starts, I won’t get to see them much, if at all, for five weeks.

Training camp can get to be a pain after a while because it is so long. Banging heads with your teammates for five long weeks before the season starts without seeing your family on a regular basis can get to you after a while. But once training camp actually starts, the vigorous workouts designed specifically for the game gets your body into true football shape pretty fast. Two-a-days in the heat along with multiple exercises will do that to you. Sometimes it just seems to get a bit unnecessary after a while. Two-a-days are not much fun either, but in the end, it is all worth it for the opportunity to play football on this level for a living.
