Texans Fantasy Players

Well, folks, after a long return due to the Texas Bar Exam, I’ve finally returned in time to anticipate football season throughout the month of August leading up to the Texans first game against the New York Jets.  I plan on writing much more often.  Please excuse my absence, it was not for a lack of fan-dom.  I know that a lot of people, including myself, are gearing up for the fantasy football draft or drafts.  I know I will be playing in 3 leagues again this year.  Where do some of the good guys rank among the fantasy players?

Andre Johnson is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL along with Larry Fitzgerald.  He should be taken by the middle of the second round, if not sooner.

Steve Slaton, coming off a rookie campaign where he rushed for more than 1200 yards, is geared for an even bigger year this season.  With a slimmed down Duane Brown and an offensive line seasoned one more year by Alex Gibbs, the Texans rushing attack should be top notch.  I can see Slaton going in the first round, but should be nabbed no later than the second round. Handcuffs include Chris Brown and Arian Foster.

Matt Schaub is poised to become an elite fantasy quarterback.  Each of the three times he has missed time, the hit that knocked Matt out of the games drew a fine from the NFL.  This is not an injury prone player.  Matt has been the victim of hits that have been around or over the line.  Expect Matt to be a top 7 or 8 QB and should be drafted in the 5th round.

Owen Daniels is a top tight end, provided he can score more touchdowns.  With an increased emphasis on red zone scoring, the Texans should jump from 17th in scoring to the top 10.  Expect OD to be a beneficiary of that emphasis and emerge as one of the AFC’s best fantasy tight ends and should be drafted between 6 and 8.

Kevin Walter proved he can play in the last few seasons, and can contribute to your fantasy team as well.  As a second WR or a flex position player, Walter can be counted on to produce major points, especially if your league awards a point per reception.

Kris Brown is a solid kicker option.  Select him in the last round of your draft, as this is the place for all kickers to be drafted.
