Texans linebacker Brian Cushing suffered a sprained ligament in his left knee Tuesday and was deemed out of the team’s preseason opener this weekend. The first-round draft pick from USC visited practice Wednesday but was wearing a brace with an ice pack on the left knee.
Cushing won’t suit up for the Houston-Kansas City game Saturday but should be probable against Minnesota, the Texans’ third preseason opponent. The Texans open the regular season against the New York Jets.
The young linebacker won’t undergo surgery, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. The tactician also said that linebacker Zac Diles will get the start against the Chiefs.
