McNair says Texans have no money for free agents

In a rather disturbing statement earlier, Texans owner Bob McNair told Bloomberg that the Texans, who sure could use some more players, have no money to buy free agents:

Bob McNair, the owner of the Houston Texans National Football League team, said many teams can’t afford to spend indiscriminately on free agents. “Most teams are stressed economically and do not have the money,” McNair said today in an interview from Houston with Bloomberg Television.

  1. Atari says:

Sensationalist headline. At no point did he say the Texans didn’t have the money to pursue a free agent. He said if they went out and picked up a high priced free agent they’d have to pass that cost along to the fans and he was reluctant to do it, not that he wouldn’t but that it’d take an exceptional situation to do so. That’s not the same as not having the money to do it.
