Former Oilers LB Hunt Passes Away at 53

The National Football Post reports that former Oilers LB Daryl Hunt has passed away at the age of 53:

Former Houston Oilers linebacker Daryl Hunt has died of an an apparent heart attack, according to the Oklahoman. A former University of Oklahoma standout, Hunt died at age 53.

A two-time All-American linebacker and a three-time all-conference pick for the Sooners as their career record holder with 530 tackles, Hunt played six years for the Oilers.

He was the first black football player at Odessa Permian, the school profiled in the Friday Night Lights book.

“Great kid, great player, great person,” former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer said. “He was special in every way. People around him realized that. Doesn’t make sense. Big, strapping, healthy-looking. You’d never thought he was sick.”
