The town of Berlin, Maryland will celebrate its first ever “Ben Tate Day” this Saturday. Berlin, a town of just less than 3,500, is Tate’s hometown, and they’ll greet him with a picnic and parade. Tate played for Stephen Decatur High School of Berlin and Snow Hill High School of Snow Hill.
“It’s going to be a good time,” Tate told The Daily Times. “Like a town barbecue. I hope there’s a significant turnout.”
The Ocean City Dispatch reported that Tate is a role model for the local youth looking to pursue their dreams.
“He’s very, very modest. He always had a great disposition about himself,” said B.J. Johnson, Tate’s high school basketball coach.
Training camp is 17 days away, and Tate sits third on the Texans’ running back depth chart; however, the second round draft pick should see plenty of time in the Texans’ 2010 running back by committee approach.
