Texans Kickers Duel Tuesday

Houston’s ABC 13 News reported Tuesday that the kicking competition is on, and veteran free agent acquisition, Neil Rackers is one up.  On Tuesday, the Texans’ two kickers Kris Brown and Rackers participated in a full-squad workout.  Rackers went a perfect 6-for-6 while Brown missed one 42-yarder, going 5-for-6.  Last season Brown ranked 28th amongst kickers in percentage and he was also responsible for taking the Texans out of two wins against division rival Colts and Titans.  His kicking mess has truly led many Texans fans to rather see anybody else but Brown take the field in September;  however, Brown’s been a solid kicker for the Texans’ since their 2002 inaugural season.  For Rackers, his career accomplishments are quite appealing to give him a shot in 16 games for the Texans: Most FGs in a Season (40); Most FGs of 50 Yards or More in a Quarter (2); Most FGs of 50 Yards or More in a Game (3 — tied with Morton Anderson, Connor Barth and Kris Brown); Two-Time Leader in FGA in NFL (2005, 2006);  Pro Bowl and All-Pro Selections (2005).  Expect Brown to put up a fight and force the Texans to make a very difficult decision come September 4’s cuts for the 53-man roster.
