Texans Sign Former Bear DE Mark Anderson

The Houston Texans are continuing to improve their defensive line depth with the addition of fifth year pro defensive end Mark Anderson.  Anderson had 12 sacks in 2006 but only 9 1/2 since then.  He was cut by the Bears after Monday’s signing of former UFL and Saint first rounder defensive end Charles Grant.  Anderson has a contract still guaranteed with the Bears and will receive a prorated 12 game contract with the Texans.  The Texans have been attempting to improve their defensive line depth since the Texans’ defensive line couldn’t stay healthy in the preseason and Connor Barwin was lost for the season in Week 1.  For Anderson, he’s reunited with his Alabama college teammate DeMeco Ryans.  Anderson is a pass rush specialist, generally only used on those downs.  Presumably, according to Paul Kuharsky of ESPN, defensive end Antonio Smith can move inside on third downs.
