Texans Try Out Two Quarterbacks and Four Receivers

The Houston Texans worked out two quarterbacks and four receivers Tuesday.  Although there is no word on why the Texans worked out the players, ProFootballTalk.com reported that the Texans worked out the quarterbacks to get a good glimpse of the receivers present.  The quarterbacks the Texans worked out were Colt Brennan and Jarrett Brown.  Brennan, a former Redskin, and Brown, a former 49er, were present to throw passes to receivers Reggie Brown, Derek Hagan, Dexter Jackson, and Demetrius Williams.

ProFootballTalk.com is likely right that the Texans worked out the quarterbacks to get a glimpse at the receivers.  The Texans are already loaded at quarterback with Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart, and Dan Orlovsky.  At receiver, however, the Texans’ Andre Johnson (ankle), Jacoby Jones (calf) and Dorin Dickerson (knee) are both injured.  That means Kevin Walter and David Anderson are the only available healthy Texans wide receivers, and if another Texan receiver goes down the Texans might be throwing running back Steve Slaton and tight end James Casey in at receiver.  So picking up one of the likes of fifth year former Eagle and Buc Reggie Brown, fourth year former Raven Demetrius Williams, second year former 2nd round pick Buc and Panther Dexter Jackson, and fifth year former Dolphin and Giant Derek Hagan, would likely do the Texans some good.  Williams has been injury prone in his NFL career but was a great receiver for the Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco.  Hagan had all the chances in the world to grasp the Fins’ starting receiving job, but just could not catch the ball and lost the job to Ted Ginn.  Dexter Jackson, known for upsetting Michigan with his alma mater Appalachian State, was cut by the Bucs after one season.  He was released by the Panthers before the start of this season.  Reggie Brown, known for his time with former Eagles’ starting quarterback, Donovan McNabb, was traded to the Bucs in March this year for a sixth round pick in 2011 but cut this September.

How about trying out two corners and two safeties?
