Texans Cut Two on Day of Deadline

The Houston Texans didn’t make a trade splash before today’s 4 PM NFL Trade Deadline.  Rather, the Texans released veteran Ephraim Salaam, who played  a reserve role to the formerly suspended offensive tackle Duane Brown, and waived fill-in linebacker, David Nixon.  Nixon played outside linebacker for the Texans this past weekend in the win over the Chiefs, and  he was able to add some highlight hits (7) to his free agency tape.  On the trade deadline, the Texans must have been tempted to trade for a top, or even better than what-you-have-type, cornerback or possibly a middle linebacker following DeMeco Ryan’s achilles injury.  However, no trade was made and general manager Rick Smith and head coach Gary Kubiak must be satisfied with the pieces they have in place to make a push at the Super Bowl; a goal every team must have in this league.
