Its been blasted all over the airwaves and news prints: anything would be better than our current secondary. And as such, the constant fan calls continue with the urge for Bob McNair to fork up the money to upgrade the cornerback position. So here’s your list of available, top cornerbacks for the Texans to sign:
1. Nnamdi Asomugha, 29. This Nigerian-American (Igbo) All Pro conerback was a first round pick 2003, re-signed by the Raiders and the highest paid cornerback in NFL history. After playing the Raiders in 2009, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said “Asomugha is the best (corner) I’ve seen in a while throughout this league. He’s big, he’s fast, they put him out there on an island the whole game. He’s an exceptional player.” In 2010, he was selected to both Fox Sports’ and USA Today’s All-Decade Team.
2. Champ Bailey, 32. Bailey was the seventh overall pick by the Washington Redskins in the 1999 NFL Draft. He’s a nine-time Pro Bowl player, a three-time First All Pro Team selection, and a three-time Second All Pro Team selection. In 2009, out of the 80 passes thrown his way (yep he’s still a blanket cornerback) he allowed zero (0) touchdowns. He has 48 interceptions in his 11 year career.
3. Carlos Rogers, 29. Rogers won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2004 at Auburn and was drafted ninth overall in 2005 by the Washington Redskins. For the ‘Skins, he has been one of their most consistent cornerbacks since the leaving of Bailey in 2004. There’s questions about how good he can be as a number one cornerback, but he’s only been improving since entering the league.
