Texans Support Souper Bowl of Caring Houston 2011

ABC 13 reported that the Souper Bowl of Caring Houston 2011 kicked off Wednesday where Houston Texans offensive tackle Eric Winston, the Texans cheerleaders and many Souper Bowl of Caring supporters led an effort by the city of Houston to raise three million pounds of food for the national Souper Bowl of Caring campaign.  The Texans are one of nine NFL teams that support the foundation that directs every dollar and food of donations to local charities. Winston told ABC 13 on the campaign ongoing in Houston:

“It’s a big market campaign. Just trying to pass out, gain awareness, raise awareness around Houston to try to get everyone to pitch in. If everyone can do a little bit, it’s gonna work, it’s gonna help out everyone”

According to the foundation’s website, Souper Bowl of Caring has raised a total of $71,167,203 since their establishment in 1990.  Thus far in 2011, Louisiana leads in volunteers and reported donations.  Texas should, expectedly, change the leader board that can be found here.
