Texans Announce Coaching Additions

NFL.com reported the Houston Texans announced their additions to the coaching staff on Friday.  The Texans have hired Reggie Herring as the linebackers coach, Vance Jackson as defensive backs coach, John Butler as defensive assistant, and Jim Ryan as offensive assistant.  Butler and Ryan will also work with special teams coordinator Joe Marciano.

The overhaul for an experienced coaching staff is reflective of the putrid final 13 games of the Texans’ 2010 season.  Herring’s coached the Texans well before and has experience coaching with Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips in Dallas.  Jackson has nine years of coaching experience and has a habit of turning young players into veterans. Ryan played three seasons under former Phillips in Dallas, played linebacker for the Denver Broncos for 11 seasons, and was a teammate of Texans head coach Gary Kubiak’s for six of those Bronco seasons. He also coached linebackers under former Bronco head coach Mike Shanahan.  He will be replacing Bruce Matthews.  Butler coached linebackers and special teams at the University of Minnesota.
