Phillips Wants to Put Kareem Jackson in Position to Succeed

The Houston Texans 2010 first round pick, Kareem Jackson, had a disastrous rookie season.  However, the young 22-year-old managed to survive, if not slowly improve throughout the year.  Since the beginning he was punished by the Texans’ starting receivers in the offseason, countless no-names in the regular season and Texans’ fans all around.  However, Jackson has been and still is heralded for his potential and true cornerback skills.  And the Texans new defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips, knows it.  The Houston Chronicle reported that Phillips said, to expose it, he’d get Jackson in the position to succeed:

“We’ve got to get Jackson playing better and not put him in some of the situations the corners were put in last year.”

“It’s what they can do,” he said. “You look for their strengths, and then it’s up to us (coaches) to put them in situations to take advantage of those strengths.”

However unrelated, KILT interviewed offensive tackle Eric Winston on Jackson’s recent Twitter post regarding his enjoyment of a Domincan cock fight:

“I have no opinion on what the league or team will say. Not because … I mean, you can make a case for and against it. I mean, he was in a foreign land where it’s legal. Now, is it good publicity for yourself? No. But I’m talking about legally, can the league come down and say you’re in violation of the league conduct policy. Commissioner Goodell can interpret it any way he wants, and that’s half the problem with the policy. But that’s neither here nor there. But what are the Texans supposed to say? Obviously it’s not good judgment, but you want to come down on someone like that, he’s on vacation in a place where that’s perfectly legal, and who are we to say that you shouldn’t be doing that or not.”
