GM Smith Comments on “Mr. Irrelevant” Pick

HoustonTexans.com reported that Texans general manager Rick Smith is excited for another shot at a seventh round player, even if its the last pick in the NFL Draft.

“I’m excited.  Obviously, when you can gain additional picks, it’s always a bonus for you. And we’ve had a little bit of success with that round. It is a relevant pick for us.”

In the past few years the Texans have selected the following seventh round draft picks: Dorin Dickerson (2010), Troy Nolan (2009), Alex Brink (2008), Zach Diles (2007).  All but Brink had integral roles for the Texans last season. Dickerson remains a project while Nolan will compete for the starting strong safety position.  Diles went untendered this offseason.
