Okoye Wants to Stay with Texans

Chuck Carroll of FootballNewsNow.com reported that defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, 23, would like to remain a Texan.

“At the end of the day this is a business and whatever happens, happens.  But I know in my heart that I love Houston. I love the city. I love the people. I love the team and I want to be a part of it when we make it to the playoffs. . . I definitely want to stay here.”

Okoye also said he has not heard from the team regarding trade rumors.  He pointed out that Houston Chronicle writer, John McClain, is responsible for the story.

“That’s something from John McClain and quite frankly–don’t take this as a disrespect or anything–I respect you guys’ jobs, but I don’t get my information or rely on my information from the media, because there is only so much truth to it.  The majority of the time, the people who think they know, don’t know. So, I think this is John McClain’s article, I think he’s the one that started it up. Trust me, he’s not my coach and I wouldn’t him to be my coach.”

McClain pointed out earlier this month that Okoye could be used as trade bait to move-up in the 2011 NFL Draft.  Okoye does not necessarily fit the 3-4 nose tackle mold; however it remains to be seen whether Okoye can make the move to a 3-4 defensive end.
