Houston Texans rookie punter Brett Hartmann will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his non-kicking leg, head coach Gary Kubiak announced on Monday.
Undrafted out of Central Michigan, Hartmann won a training camp competition with veteran Brad Maynard, averaging 36.1 yards on seven punts and posting four touchbacks as a kickoff specialist. Through the first 12 games this season, Hartmann had a net average of 37.8 yards per punt, which ranks 24th among punter this season and had placed 15 of his 58 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Of Hartmann’s 50 kickoffs, 23 went for touchbacks.
The Texans are expected to work out replacement punters on Tuesday.
