Coach Gary Kubiak continued his defense of Matt Schaub the day after the Texans were eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
In Sunday’s 41-28 loss at New England, Schaub was 34-of-51 for 343 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one interception and was sacked once when the ball slipped out of his hand.
“I believe in Matt,” Kubiak said at his last Monday news conference of the season. “I have no doubts about him. He’s our quarterback. The team has to get better for us to take the next step.”
Kubiak and general manager Rick Smith met with their players today.
“I met with them briefly,” Kubiak said. “You tell them how you felt about the way they played and what you expect of them. I’ll also call them in a couple of weeks when I’ve had time to digest everything better.”
