Week 1 San Diego Chargers:

With week one fast approaching it’s time to size up this weeks opponent. The San Diego Chargers.

This will be the fourth time these 2 clubs have met, with the Chargers beating Houston all 4 times so the Texans are looking to start the season off with a victory. This will be the second time the teams have met on opening day, the Chargers winning 27-20 on that day. But this is a different Texans team. Coming off 2 straight AFC South championships. Houston is looking to hit the ground running this season.

The Chargers ranked near last (31st) in the league and 9th on Defense. While the Texans ranked 7th in both offense and defense. The Bolts have a new head coach in Mike McCoy, a new OC in Ken Wisenhunt while John Pagano returns as DC, so there is going to be some new philosophies on offense. The Texans were lucky to keep almost all of the coaching staff in place that they had last season, so expectations are high in H Town.  Gary Kubiak, Rick Smith and Wade Phillips have had a couple years put in place and install schemes, so there is a sense that the time is now to get over that hump and become a franchise that has paid it’s dues and is now ready to become one of the elite teams in the NFL for years to come.
