Report: Texans Interested in Ryan Mallett

Mallett

Starting on March 11 at 4 P.M eastern time, free agency will kick off — meaning the Houston Texans will have to start working on improving from the NFL’s worst to one of the best like they were just a couple seasons ago. The Texans have had enough of quarterback Matt Schuab and are now looking for a new starting quarterback. There are several options for the Texans at this point while holding the first pick of the NFL draft.

Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles are all waiting to see what the Texans will do. However, the Texans could try to fill their need quickly in free agency. According to a report, the Texans have expressed interest in Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett. Since being drafted out of Arkansas, Mallett has played second-string quarterback Tom Brady. Mallett’s reps have really been limited but when he came out of college, Mallett was looked at as a top quarterback prospect before having character issues.

Now, Mallett is still not a free agent, but is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Patriots and the Texans could try offering a trade. According to the report, the interest stands at just “talks” for the time being but will be monitored from here on out. Will it continue to catch wind or fall quickly?
