Colts Fast Start Dooms Texans in 33-28 Setback for Houston

Indianapolis Colts v Houston Texans

J.J. Watt did all that he could, but in the end it wasn’t enough as the Colts escaped Thursday night with a big 33-28 win over the Texans in Houston to drop the Texans to 3-3.

Watt returned a fumble for a touchdown to cut the at one-point huge lead for the Colts to five, but it was as close as they could get as they dropped their second straight.

The Texans had two opportunities to take the lead late, but the Colts recovered fumbles by Andre Johnson and Ryan Fitzpatrick in the last five minutes to seal the win.

The game looked like a laugher after the first 15 minutes, as the Colts offense dominated with three TD’s and a field goal in the opening quarter to lead it 24-0.

Colts QB Andrew Luck finished with 370 yards passing and three touchdowns for his fourth straight 300-yard passing game. T.Y. Hilton had a career-high 223 yards receiving with a touchdown, including 140 yards in the first quarter.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien didn’t seem to be able to figure out why the team seemed to start the contest in sleepwalk mode.

“I don’t know,” he said. “We haven’t started well yet so got to try to figure it out.”

It was another dominant night for Watt, who was a bright spot with two sacks and two passes batted down. He also had the key fumble return for a touchdown of 45 yards, his third score this season.

“He’s a great, great player,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. “He’s one of the most dominant players in the game right now. He’ll go down as one of the best defensive players … to play the game.”

The loss though could have been different if the team would have executed in the final five minutes. Johnson, who had scored earlier, was called for pass interference, and then two plays later caught a 13-yard pass and fumbled.

The final Texans chance saw Bjoern Werner sack Fitzpatrick and stripped the ball, and D’Qwell Jackson recovered to seal the Colts win.
