Osweiler Talks About the Decision in Picking to Come to the Texans

Brock Osweiler

Newly minted Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler acknowledged how tough a choice it was for him to leave the Denver Broncos, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Osweiler played four years with the Broncos, apprenticing under Peyton Manning for the past two seasons, developing into a starter before being benched and replaced by Manning on the way to the team winning a Super Bowl championship. Ultimately, Osweiler chose the Texans and their three-year, $72 million offer that included $37 million guaranteed and averages $18 million per year over the Broncos’ offer of $16 million per year.

‘It was a very difficult decision, the most difficult decision of my life,” Osweiler said Thursday at NRG Stadium.

Osweiler said the Broncos’ offer was only on the table for a short amount of time. The Broncos didn’t negotiate with Osweiler initially as they waited for Manning to make his decision with the five-time NFL Most Valuable Player retiring. Osweiler said he followed advice from his agents, including Jimmy Sexton, of CAA, to not talk to the Broncos for a while Before a decision was reached, Osweiler said he did hold conversations with the Broncos as well as the Texans to determine which direction he was headed.
