It was a no-brainer who was going to walk away Saturday night with the ‘Walter Payton Man of the Year’ award – as no one did anywhere near as much for people following Hurricane Harvey as J.J. Watt.
Watt raised more than $37 million for Hurricane Harvey relief, and also continued his efforts with his Justin J. Watt Foundation, which helps underserved kids.
That foundation has given more than $3 million to athletic programs for middle school students since it started in 2010.
Despite playing only eight games due to injury, Watt was by far the most giving person off the field in the NFL in 2017, and more than deserved the award.
