Texans Veteran Safety Andre Hal Announces Retirement

A survivor of lymphoma who made an inspirational comeback last season, Texans veteran safety Andre Hal has retired from the NFL, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

It was a surprise that Hal is walking away from the NFL.

In his announcement, Hal emphasized that his decision isn’t related to his health. The former seventh-round draft pick from Vanderbilt said he is simply walking away on his own terms.

“One thing I’ve learned in life is that change is inevitable and life goes through seasons,” Hal wrote. “This season of my life has come to an end. I will be retiring from the NFL. My health did not have anything to do with my decision.”

“I am completely healthy. Thank you to the Houston Texans organization for giving me the opportunity to live my childhood dream. I also want to thank my family and and friends for all their support. I truly appreciate it.”
