Texans QB A.J. McCarron to Miss the Preseason with a Thumb Injury

Texans quarterback A.J. McCarron is expected to miss the entire preseason after injuring his right throwing thumb in Tuesday’s practice according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

McCarron was hurt on a follow-through when his thumb banged against a helmet.

Signed to a one-year, $3 million contract in March, the 28-year-old McCarron is playing for his fourth team in 12 months and is expected to replace free agent Brandon Weeden as the backup quarterback behind starter DeShaun Watson. The Texans still have veteran Joe Webb on the roster but the front office will need to sign another QB to get through the summer.

Ironically, Weeden is one of the names being floated as a possibility.
