Texans QB Watson Not Pleased Team Hasn’t Interviewed Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

The Texans said from day one that the team wanted franchise quarterback DeShaun Watson to be part of their talks in who would be brought in next to be the team’s head coach.

It sounds like the team isn’t following through with their promises, and it’s not sitting well with the quarterback.

One candidate who is at the top of just about every team’s list is that of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and while the Texans have spoken to three potential coaching candidates, Bieniemy isn’t one of them.

And it’s not sitting well with the Texans quarterback.

Watson not only has been advocating for the team to bring in Bieniemy for at least a chat, but he also was not a fan of the club’s hiring of new GM Nick Caserio, who the franchise brought over from New England.

SI.com’s Albert Breer reports that Chiefs QB Pat Mahomes put in a “strong word” for Bieniemy, which then led to Watson making a push to the team to make overtures to Bieniemy to bring him in for a chat, which to date has never happened.

Watson’s unhappiness could be a combo of the Bieniemy situation along with the hiring of Caserio after the team said that the quarterback would be consulted about who would run the team next.

Former Lions and Colts coach Jim Caldwell, former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, and Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady are the three coaching candidates that have spoken to the Texans thus far.
