The Houston Texans hired defensive backs coach, Vance Joseph, in another move towards completing the Texans’ defensive coaching staff. Joseph spent the last six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, and he’s expected to have his hands full with the Texans this upcoming season. This past season, the Texans’ secondary easily measured up against the worst secondaries in league history. Then, rookie Kareem Jackson and second year corner Glover Quin started at cornerback for the Texans. Both were burned all season long by the most unheard of pro receivers. Safeties Bernard Pollard, Eugene Wilson and Troy Nolan were helpless in coverage all season long, as well. Head coach Gary Kubiak and new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ job have a lot of work to do to keep Joseph’s head on straight, unlike former Seattle Seahawks zone, non-press secondary coach Ray Rhodes who retired from the Texans defensive backs coach position this week.
