Leach Has Knee Surgery; Hopes to be Resigned by Texans

Houston Texans fullback, Vonta Leach’s, agent and general manager Rick Smith met at the Indianapolis Combine recently, but no deal was done for the Texans’ Pro Bowl fullback.  As reported by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Leach underwent knee surgery following the 2011 Pro Bowl and now hopes a deal can be reached with the Texans before the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement expires Thursday at 11:59 p.m. Leach said his knee “feels great” and he hopes a deal can get done so he can get back to blocking the league’s top runner last season, Arian Foster.

“I’m hoping we can get something done because I want to return, but if we can’t, I’ll test the market when (free agency) begins.  I think we’re on the verge of something special. We’re only a couple of players away, and I want to be here when we finally turn it around.”

While its likely the Texans will want to retain Leach’s services, if there’s no new CBA done by Friday then all unsigned players will have to wait to a new CBA is instated before they’ll be on an NFL roster.  Outside of Arian Foster’s exclusive rights contract, the Texans are in danger of losing their grip on the following players: DT Shaun Cody, TE Owen Daniels, SS Bernard Pollard, OLB Zach Diles, WR Jacoby Jones, DE Mark Anderson and RB Derrick Ward.  P Matt Turk and QB Matt Leinart are two future-free-agents the Texans could forget soon after Friday morning.
