Texans Keep OT Ryan Harris With A One-Year Deal

Offensive tackle Ryan Harris, whom the Texans signed on September 1 of last year, signed a one-year deal to remain with the Texans on Monday, Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle reports.

He played in all 16 games in some capacity, beginning the season on special teams last year, and started in two games.

Harris was signed to add depth to the line after tackle Rashad Butler tore the triceps in his right arm during training camp and was placed on injured reserve. Harris added a veteran presence to a right side that lacked experience as young players worked into the starting lineup.

Second-year Derek Newton started 14 games at right tackle and battled leg injuries during the season. Newton had reparative knee surgery in February.

Harris spent the first four years of his career in Denver and was their starting right tackle in 2009 and 2010. He ended 2009 on injured reserve with a toe injury, missed five games in 2010 with an injury and missed most of the 2011 season due to an injury.
