Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins Makes a Pitch for Patriots CB Malcolm Butler to Come to Houston

Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins stirred the pot Monday in the wake of Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler’s controversial Super Bowl benching, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Hopkins made a recruiting pitch on social media, Tweeting at the former Super Bowl hero and writing: “Wusup @mac_BZ we got a place for you in Houston.”

The Texans could use some reinforcements in the secondary, which struggled to replace A.J. Bouye after he signed a five-year, $67.5 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

Johnathan Joseph is a free agent and the Texans have a decision to make on whether to pick up a fifth-year club option for injury-prone former first-round draft pick Kevin Johnson.

A former undrafted free agent from West Alabama, Butler could be an upgrade for the Texans. He could also be expensive.

Hopkins has praised Butler in the past

“The guy’s made more plays than just that one play in the Super Bowl,” Hopkins said before a regular-season loss to the Patriots years ago. “That’s just the one that sticks out to a lot people. He’s a very smart football player, very talented.”
